It was a few years ago in a philosophy class that I first heard the word 'tacit.' My professor explained it as 'knowledge without knowing' and quoted the founder of this concept, Michael Polanyi, by saying, 'We know more than we can tell.' Wikipedia explains it like this,
'With tacit knowledge, people are not often aware of the knowledge they possess or how it can be valuable to others. Tacit knowledge is considered more valuable because it provides context for people, places, ideas and experiences. Effective transfer of tacit knowledge generally requires extensive personal contact and trust.'
It was this concept that began a change in the way I viewed the world. Instead of being content with the way I saw things, I started to examine why I saw things the way I did and also try to witness the world through the eyes of others as well. I believe everyone has a unique view of the world, a story to tell and insights into life that need to be shared with others.
Tacit World is a snapshot of my story. It is my attempt to describe the indescribable, to express the inexpressible, to put into words the unspoken beauty found all around us and to share with others how I see the world at this point in my life.
